Rising damp |
Usually seen around the base of walls. Underground water is sucked up by capillary action and trapped behind ordinary paint. Causes paint peeling and discolouration. |

Fungus |
Ordinary paint attracts and holds dirt particles and water. Fungus feeds on these dirt particles damaging the paint. |

Blistering & peeling |
Ordinary paint forms a waterproof seal so water and water vapour collect behind it. The pressure causes the paint to tear or blister. |

Discolouration & fading |
Ordinary paint is easily damaged by alkaline in water trapped behind the paint surface. Pigments are very vulnerable to fading caused by solar radiation. |

Efflorescence |
Caused by water soluble salts leaching through damaged paint. The water evaporates and the white crystals are left behind as efflorescence. |

Chalking |
Ordinary paint is very vulnerable to chalking, especially inferior quality formulations. Pigments are eroded from the surface by weathering, leaving chalk filler exposed. |

Dirty paint |
Ordinary paint is elastomeric. It softens, expands and contracts, trapping atmospheric dirt. |
